7 Productive Things to Do While Onboard a Plane

Imagine yourself flying from one country to another. That means you’re stuck in a plane for hours, a day even. Unless you’ve secured a first-class ticket, you’re going to sit in economy class where you’re together with hundreds of others. There’s barely enough room for you to sleep on, and your options for entertainment and fun are limited-or perhaps not.

Here are some of the best things you can do during long flights:

1. Read a book. Perhaps you’re too busy prior to your travel you haven’t even flipped the pages of a book. The plane ride is the most perfect time to catch up on your reading. You can pick one that you’ve haven’t finished or begin with a cover you’ve always wanted to read.

2. Catch a good sleep. Have you been lacking sleep because your travel preparations? Sleep is one of the most productive activities you can do. But beware. You want to avoid jet lag as much as possible. To do so, determine the time of your arrival. If it’s nighttime, try your best to not sleep while you’re still flying. This way, you can still get a very long rest at night.

3. Talk to your co-passenger. If you think your seatmate is willing to strike a conversation, then do so. You have a lot of time to meet a new friend. What’s more, if you both of you end up as first-timers or leisure travelers, you can explore the destination together. Besides, memories are better shared.

4. Listen to affirmations. Affirmations contain subliminal messages that increase positivity in your life. They enhance your confidence, give you strength, open your mind to endless possibilities, or simply change your negative mind-set to something good. You can even find very specific subliminal messages, such as those intended for people who are apprehensive to fly on a plane.

Affirmations or subliminal messages can already be downloaded as mp3s. You can then save them in your iPod and mp3 players.

5. Catch up with work. If you don’t want to spoil your holiday, then you might as well complete whatever work is left while you’re enjoying the airplane ride. But better make sure that you don’t have to use your mobile phone. If you’re planning to use the laptop, turn off all remote connections.

6. Write a journal. Wouldn’t it be nice if you can really recall the adventure as if it happened only yesterday? You can actually do that by coming up with your own journal. Write everything you feel about the trip: excitement, apprehension, fear, and joy. You can even describe your surroundings, the places you’re planning to visit, and a whole lot more. Don’t forget to take some snapshots. They go very well with what you’re writing.

7. Help out. As long as it’s safe, flight attendants would actually allow you to assist them, perhaps in distributing food or hosting games. The more you’re involved with the flight, the more you forget about the time and even your fear of flying.

In-Seat Exercises To Combat Deep Vein Thrombosis

Deep Vein Thrombosis is a condition when blood clots form in the veins of the leg. It is a very serious condition and can be fatal. It is caused by long periods of immobility and as a result is associated with air travel.

All reputable airlines and holiday companies provide information on deep vein thrombosis and you are strongly recommended to seek advice if you are the type of passenger who is most likely to be affected by the condition and how to reduce the risks when flying.

Most passengers can reduce the risk of deep vein thrombosis through keeping circulation active by practising in-seat exercises, particularly leg exercises, whilst aboard the airplane. Most airlines and holiday companies also advocate walking around the aircraft to reduce the risk but any regular air travellers will know this is not always practical or even possible.

Most airlines will provide details of exercises you can do in their in-flight magazine or during the in-flight videos. However, to give you an insight to what they are and perhaps even to give you a chance to practise them before you fly here are some of them.

1. During the flight place a pillow in the hole of your lower back to maintain the curve of your spine. Avoid crossing your legs. This will help your back as well as your blood circulation. Try to keep your weight evenly balanced on each buttock and keep your shoulders relaxed.

2. Sit back in your seat and flatten the head rest. Sitting up straight and with your shoulders relaxed allow your head to roll slowly to one side. Then, gently roll back through its central position to the other side. Repeat this exercise several times.

3. Sit upright in your seat and move forward a little. Lift your shoulders up towards your ears and then circle them back down. To help you with this exercise imagine you have pencils on the tips of your shoulders to draw circles. Repeat this exercise six times. Then lift your shoulders up towards your ears and drop again. Repeat six times.

4. Sit in an upright position and place a pillow under your right thigh just above the knee. Try to keep your weight even. Now circle your right foot round, by rotating from the ankle joint, whilst keeping the whole leg as still as possible. Do twelve circles in each direction with each foot.

5. Sit upright and keep your feet in line with your hips and knees. Push your toes and the balls of your feet into the floor. Hold this position and slowly count to six. Then release. Now push your heels into the floor for a count of six then release.

How To Save Money While Traveling

Is the reason why you never travel anywhere just because you don’t want to pay an arm and a leg for it? What most people don’t realize is traveling does not have to cost an arm and a leg, you can easily find cheap travel destination. The first thing you need to do in order to save money on traveling is determine the time of year you want to travel. The reason why you need to do this is because some places are cheaper during certain months and those are the places that you should consider going to. The only bad part about this is these places are often cheaper because they are not in their prime season. For instance Aspen, Colorado and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico are great in the winter, and Miami Florida is great in the summer time. Now that you know when you will be traveling the next thing you need to know is how you want to get there. My advice would be to go by air and the nice thing about this is air travel is actually cheaper than you think. The best way to get a cheap flight is simply to book your ticket online through a discount booking website such as Expedia or Orbitz and then call and confirm your ticket a few days later. What you need to do is buy a seat that you would be ok sitting in and then a week prior to the trip you should call the airline themselves and ask if they have any closer seats that you could switch to. The nice thing about this is once you have already paid for your seat you are free to move about the cabin which means you can go from a seat all the way in the back to one in the front without paying anything extra. The next thing you need to do is get a hotel. What you want to do is just wait until you get to your destination to find the hotel and the reason is because booking at the last minute will ensure that you get an unsold room which means that the price is at a huge discount. Just remember that not all hotels will have unsold rooms and when this happens don’t just buy the last room they have available, go somewhere else and find a room that you can get at a discount. The last thing you want to do is save on everything else just to blow that money on a high priced room that you probably won’t be in very much.
